remexit® – a versatile alternative

Roads must withstand the impacts of traffic and climate for as long as possible. Consequently, good planning and execution as well as the selection of suitable materials are of particular importance, while aspects of environmental protection and sustainability are also becoming increasingly important. The regulations of the German Road and Transportation Research Association (FGSV) define the relevant standards for road construction including the use of substitute building materials such as recycled aggregates in the specifications.

Environmental regulations for secondary aggregates

Roads and earthworks: Secondary aggregates and the environment

There are a number of environmental regulations that deal with the reuse of mineral waste. Affected by theses rules are recycled aggregates as well as secondary aggregates from energy-from-waste processes in form of incinerator bottom ash (IBA) such as granova® or other by-products from industrial processes. The protection of soil and groundwater is always decisive for the use of these materials. more

Technical requirements of recycled and secondary aggregates

The requirements regarding the structural properties of recycled aggregates for use in earthworks and road construction are defined in the regulations of the German Road and Transportation Research Association (Forschungsgesellschaft für Straßen- und Verkehrswesen). more

Future nationwide secondary aggregates directive

On June 25, 2021, the Directive on Secondary Aggregates was approved by the German Bundesrat. The introduction of the Directive and the new version of the Federal Directive on Soil Protection and Contaminated Sites are intended to create a uniform and legally binding basis for the proper and safe recycling of mineral waste. We will use the two-year period until the final enactment in 2023 to prepare for the implementation of the new requirements. Until then, the federal state-specific regulations will continue to apply in practice.
